The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) is the only Comprehensive Cancer Center in The Netherlands (Amsterdam). It is a well-organized and dynamic cancer research institute accommodating over 50 research groups and advanced core facilities. It is an internationally renowned center covering fundamental, translational and clinical cancer research.
The department of Radiology, chaired by Professor Regina Beets-Tan, pursues research in oncological imaging covering a broad spectrum of cancer types. The most established line of research within the group is MR imaging of rectal carcinoma – resulting so far in over ten doctoral theses, 97 high-impact publications and numerous contributions to international congresses. The research output has served as the basis for several international guidelines in the area of colorectal carcinoma.
We are looking for a PhD student to join the Beets-Tan research group, who will be embedded in the research line dedicated to leveraging of artificial intelligence in the assessment and prediction of treatment outcomes to different forms of immunotherapy via ubiquitous imaging modalities (i.e. CT and MRI).
We offer a PhD studentship for an ambitious candidate with a passion for the application of artificial intelligence in medical imaging to address open research questions. Candidates with backgrounds in computer science, mathematics, engineering are inivited to apply. Theoretical knowledge and practical experience with computer vision, computational biomedical sciences, machine learning and/or computational probability and mathematical modelling is strongly appreciated. Candidates with mixed clinical-technical background are preferred, such as technical medicine, biomedical engineering, biomedical computing.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Fixed-term contract: 4 years.
You will join a dynamic international research division and collaborate with scientists and clinicians within and outside the NKI-AVL with expertise in different disciplines. Graduate students at the NKI participate in the education program of the Oncology Graduate School (OOA) Amsterdam. Supervision and promotion of career will be carried out by experts in their respective fields.
Your temporary employment is for a period of 4 years with a possible extension of another year. The gross salary per month will be from € 2.612,- to € 3.217,- according to the standard PhD scales. Amsterdam is a very lively city with many cultural amenities. The institute is located within a 20 minute tram or bicycle ride from the city center and within 20 minutes from Schiphol airport by car, bus or bicycle.
