Galsp, a new app available for iOS and Android, allows users to bookmark and store web content directly from their mobile devices. This is a first for mobile online highlighters, often necessitating accessing websites within dedicated apps. Still, the iOS version has a feature that allows users to highlight text directly on their iPhone/iPad’s native browser, Safari, without launching the app.

Glasp developed the mobile apps in response to demands from its rapidly growing user base of over 200 thousand people. CEO and co-founder Kazuki Nakayashiki had a stroke at age 20 that left him paralyzed on one side of his body; this experience inspired him to create Glasp. The chemical engineer from the University of Tokyo worried that he would lose all of his knowledge when he passed away, so he collaborated with his best buddy Kei Watanabe to create a “social learning log” system. Glasp’s goal is to level the playing field in education by bringing together people from all walks of life.
